Semi-transparent soft tissues of the female head and upper thorax allow the neuroanatomy to be read in situ, with the cerebrum seated superior to the brainstem and continuous caudally with the cervical spinal cord. Calvarial contours frame the cerebral hemispheres, while the cervical vertebrae stack inferiorly along the midline, providing a bony reference for the cord’s course. Portions of the rib cage appear lateral and inferior to the neck, anchoring the upper trunk in anatomical position. Hair and external facial features remain visible as an outer layer. For teaching, this kind of gross overlay view helps learners reconcile surface anatomy with what lies deep to it, a persistent sticking point when moving between cadaveric dissection, atlases, and clinical imaging. The continuity from brain to cervical spinal cord is the key story: it supports discussions of brainstem and high cervical lesions, where a small region can produce combined cranial nerve findings and long-tract signs. Trauma contexts fit naturally as well, since cervical spine injury can secondarily compromise the spinal cord even when the head and face look externally intact. Orientation matters. Use it in first-year medical or graduate anatomy blocks to introduce the central nervous system before cross-sectional neuroimaging, or in nursing and allied health courses where relating neck landmarks to neurologic deficits improves exam technique.
