Positioned retroperitoneally in the upper abdomen, the pancreas spans transversely from the C loop of the duodenum on the subject’s right to a narrow tail that reaches the splenic hilum on the left. Anteriorly, its body lies posterior to the stomach and omental bursa, while the head sits inferior to the liver and gallbladder region and medial to the right kidney.
