Description
Running as a narrow lateral column of the erector spinae, the iliocostalis cervicis is seen bilaterally deep to the reflected skin in a posterior full-body male view, ascending from the upper thoracic region toward the cervical transverse processes. Medial to it sits the longissimus, while the spinalis lies closest to the spinous processes, together forming the paraspinal gutters on either side of the vertebral column.
