Inferior vertebral notch of the axis (C2) is highlighted on the inferior aspect of the pedicle, where it forms the superior boundary of the C2 to C3 intervertebral foramen in anterior view. The notch lies lateral to the vertebral body and dens, and medial to the transverse process, with the lamina sweeping posteriorly from the pedicle to complete the posterior vertebral arch.
