Posterior elements of the second cervical vertebra (axis, C2) fill the frame, centered on the paired laminae as they sweep posteromedially from the pedicles and meet in the midline to complete the vertebral arch. The sequence typically tracks along the dorsal surface of the axis, clarifying how each lamina forms the roof of the vertebral canal and continues posteriorly into the bifid spinous process.
