Description
Posterior anatomy of the male pelvis and proximal thigh is rendered with the lateral femoral cutaneous nerve (lateral cutaneous nerve of the thigh) highlighted as it courses from the lumbar plexus across the iliac region toward the anterolateral thigh. Bony landmarks including the lumbar vertebrae, sacrum, ilium, acetabulum, and proximal femur orient the nerve’s path, with the femoral shaft continuing distally toward the knee joint where the femoral condyles articulate with the tibia and fibula. The nerve’s superficial trajectory is contrasted against deeper posterior structures, with the sciatic nerve descending inferiorly in the gluteal region toward the posterior thigh. Blue-toned vessels accompany the neural pathways to support topographic learning around the pelvis and thigh. Posterior rendering is a practical way to teach where the lateral femoral cutaneous nerve originates and how it relates to the pelvis before it swings toward the inguinal region near the anterior superior iliac spine. Compression or stretch at the inguinal ligament produces meralgia paresthetica, classically burning dysesthesia over the anterolateral thigh without motor deficit, and this layout helps distinguish that sensory pattern from L2 to L3 radiculopathy or femoral neuropathy.
