Running vertically along the lateral chest wall, the lateral thoracic vein ascends in the superficial fascia over the serratus anterior, just inferior to the axilla and lateral to the pectoralis major. Tributaries from the lateral thoracic (mammary) region converge toward this channel, while the cephalic vein and axillary vein lie superiorly and medially as the venous drainage collects toward the axillary fossa.
