Description
Posteriorly, the male pelvis and lower limb musculature are opened to emphasize the posterior intermuscular septum of the thigh, the dense fascial partition that attaches along the linea aspera of the femur and separates the posterior compartment from the lateral compartment. Gluteus maximus sits superiorly over the proximal femur, while the hamstrings, biceps femoris long head laterally and semitendinosus and semimembranosus more medially, descend toward the popliteal region and their proximal tendons at the ischial tuberosity. Lateral to the septum, the iliotibial tract and vastus lateralis territory are implied by the compartment boundary, with the femoral shaft and proximal tibia and fibula rendered in blue to clarify the osseous attachments.
