Inferior to the craniofacial complex, the clavicles span laterally to the acromial region, framing the shoulder girdle and the proximal humeri, while the sternum lies midline anterior to the costal cartilages and bilateral ribs. The thoracic cage contours over the lungs, and the vertebral column remains visible along the midline posterior to the sternum and ribs, continuing into the pelvis where the hip joints lead into the femora and distal lower-limb long bones. Proportions reflect the pediatric skeleton. Open sutures and growth regions are implied by the child’s age. For teaching pediatric osteology, the anterior overlay format makes it easier to correlate surface appearance with bony landmarks such as the manubrium, sternal angle region, costal margins, anterior superior iliac spines, and patellae.
