Description
Presented in standard anatomical position, the adult female skeleton is shown from skull to toes with the axial and appendicular skeleton aligned on the midline. Cranially, the neurocranium and viscerocranium are defined, including the orbits, nasal aperture, maxilla, and mandible. Inferior to the cervical, thoracic, and lumbar vertebrae, the rib cage sweeps anterolaterally to the sternum, while the pelvic girdle sits inferiorly with broad iliac blades flanking the sacrum and acetabula articulating with the proximal femora. Upper limbs extend laterally from the pectoral girdle (clavicles and scapulae) through humerus, radius, and ulna to the carpal, metacarpal, and phalangeal bones, mirrored by the lower limbs with patellae, tibiae, fibulae, and the tarsal and metatarsal arches distally. A full-length female osteology plate matters because many clinically relevant sex differences concentrate in the pelvis and thorax: a wider subpubic angle, broader pelvic inlet, and different sacral curvature influence obstetric dimensions and the radiographic interpretation of pelvic fractures.
