Description
Pubic body symphyseal surface occupies the medial aspect of the pubis where the left and right hip bones meet at the anterior midline. The oval to kidney-shaped articular area lies medial to the pubic tubercle and inferior to the pubic crest, with a roughened peripheral margin that blends into the nonarticular bone at the superior and inferior extremes. Along its superior border, the surface aligns with the attachment of the superior pubic ligament, while inferiorly it approaches the arcuate (inferior) pubic ligament and the proximal continuity of the inferior pubic ramus. Texture matters here. Clinically, the symphyseal surface is the bony interface for the interpubic fibrocartilaginous disc and adjacent hyaline cartilage, a junction that becomes a focal point in osteitis pubis, postpartum symphysis diastasis, and anterior pelvic ring injuries.
