Description
Dorsal soft tissues of the wrist and thumb are rendered with emphasis on the extensor pollicis longus tendon and its synovial tendon sheath (vagina tendinis), tracking distally from the posterior forearm beneath the extensor retinaculum toward the base of the distal phalanx of the pollex. The sheath is shown as a blue tubular covering surrounding the tendon as it courses obliquely from ulnar to radial across the dorsum, forming the ulnar border of the anatomical snuffbox after it turns around Lister’s tubercle on the distal radius. Adjacent extensor compartments and tendons are implied, with extensor carpi radialis longus and brevis lying more radial and extensor digitorum and extensor indicis more ulnar, all superficial to the dorsal carpal bones, metacarpals, and phalanges.
