Description
Centered on the posterior thoracic vertebral column (T1 to T12), the spinous processes form a midline ridge while the laminae and transverse processes project posterolaterally toward the rib heads and tubercles. Between adjacent vertebrae, the superior articular processes and their facets sit superiorly and slightly posterior to the inferior articular processes, defining the paired zygapophysial (facet) joints along the posterolateral margin of the vertebral arch. Ribs articulate laterally at the costovertebral and costotransverse joints, framing the thoracic spine and clarifying segmental relationships across the ribcage. The superior pelvis appears inferiorly as a positional reference for the thoracolumbar junction.
