Branched conidiophores extend through the field, terminating in clusters of flask-shaped phialides arranged around the distal tips. From each phialide, chains and aggregated masses of conidia collect as rounded, berry-like clusters, positioned peripherally and projecting laterally from the hyaline support. A subtle textural contrast separates the smooth conidial surface from the slightly ridged conidiophore wall. Scale is microscopic. Trichoderma morphology matters because species-level identification in culture often hinges on phialide arrangement and conidiation pattern, distinguishing it from superficially similar hyaline molds in soil and indoor environments. The grouped phialides and dense conidial heads also connect directly to the organism’s biology in the rhizosphere, where rapid sporulation supports dispersal and competitive colonization, and to its use as a biocontrol agent against plant pathogens through mycoparasitism and antibiosis.
