Description
Beneath a semi-transparent dermal layer, the animation tracks the superficial mimetic muscles of the male face as they drape over the facial skeleton and blend into the superficial musculoaponeurotic system (SMAS). Anterior to the parotid glands, the orbicularis oculi encircles the palpebral fissure while the zygomaticus major and minor run inferomedially from the zygomatic bone toward the modiolus at the angle of the mouth, interlacing with orbicularis oris. Lateral to the buccinator and superficial to the masseter, the parotid gland occupies the preauricular region, extending from the zygomatic arch superiorly toward the angle of the mandible inferiorly, and the sequence commonly brings Stensen’s duct forward across the masseter before it turns medially toward the oral vestibule. Small shifts in camera angle clarify depth: skin, subcutaneous fat, SMAS and muscle, then gland. Facial surface anatomy is unforgiving in both the clinic and the operating room, and this animation keeps the relationships honest.
