Description

Beginning at the testes within the scrotum, the sequence tracks sperm production in the seminiferous tubules and follows drainage into the rete testis and efferent ductules before the epididymis comes into focus along the posterolateral surface of each testis. From the cauda epididymidis, the ductus deferens ascends in the spermatic cord, passes through the inguinal canal, then turns medially in the pelvis to approach the posterior aspect of the urinary bladder. As the animation progresses, the ampulla of the vas deferens joins the duct of the seminal vesicle to form the ejaculatory duct, which courses through the prostate to open into the prostatic urethra, continuing distally through the penile urethra to the glans penis at the external urethral orifice. Orientation is clear. Anterior, posterior, and distal relationships remain consistent as the pathway unfolds. Clinically, this is the tract you map when evaluating male factor infertility, post-vasectomy anatomy, or pain syndromes that localize to the epididymis or spermatic cord. The animated run from epididymal tail to ejaculatory duct makes it easier to teach where obstruction occurs (for example, congenital absence of the vas deferens in CFTR-related disease versus ejaculatory duct obstruction at the level of the prostate) and why semen volume can drop with seminal vesicle or ejaculatory duct pathology while spermatogenesis remains intact.
