Description

Beginning at each renal pelvis, the paired ureters descend retroperitoneally along the anterior surface of psoas major, running inferiorly and slightly medial from the renal hilum toward the pelvic brim. The animation traces their radiographic course as they cross anterior to the common iliac artery near its bifurcation into external and internal iliac vessels, then curve anteromedially within the pelvis toward the posterior wall of the urinary bladder. Intramural segments are depicted entering obliquely through the bladder wall to open at the superolateral angles of the trigone, while the distal ureter passes near the ductus deferens and seminal vesicle in the male pelvis. Peristaltic propulsion is implied along the muscular tube. Clear landmarks.
