Description
Beginning in anatomical position, the sequence centers the uterus with its fundus superiorly, the body tapering to the isthmus, and the cervix projecting inferiorly toward the vaginal canal. Laterally, the uterine cornua give rise to each uterine (fallopian) tube, which is traced from proximal intramural and isthmic segments to the wider ampulla and distal infundibulum with fimbriae draping over the adjacent ovary. Ovaries sit posterolateral to the uterus, suspended by the mesovarium within the broad ligament, with the ovarian ligament running medially to the uterine horn and the suspensory ligament carrying the ovarian vessels toward the pelvic wall. Relationships shift subtly as the camera orbits, clarifying anterior (vesical) versus posterior (rectouterine) contours. Tubal anatomy matters clinically because segment location predicts both pathology and operative technique: most ectopic pregnancies implant in the ampulla, while salpingitis from pelvic inflammatory disease often scars the fimbriae and narrows the lumen, driving infertility. Animated continuity also makes the uterotubal junction easier to teach than a single frame, since you can follow the lumen from the uterine cavity into the intramural tube and out to the peritoneal opening, the same pathway considered during hysterosalpingography and during tubal sterilization.
