Description
Beginning on an inferior (plantar) view, the sequence tracks the intrinsic muscles of the sole in layered order beneath the plantar aponeurosis, from the superficial abductor hallucis, flexor digitorum brevis, and abductor digiti minimi to the deeper quadratus plantae and lumbricals surrounding the flexor digitorum longus tendons. As the animation progresses, the third and fourth layers come into focus, including flexor hallucis brevis and adductor hallucis (oblique and transverse heads), flexor digiti minimi brevis, and the dorsal and plantar interossei spanning between metatarsals. Medial and lateral plantar neurovascular bundles course anteriorly between muscle planes, with the intrinsic musculature arranged around the longitudinal arch from the calcaneal tuberosity posteriorly toward the metatarsophalangeal joints distally.
