Layered views of the adult male anterior thorax track the thoracic duct as it ascends from the superior abdomen into the posterior mediastinum, then curves left at the root of the neck to enter the venous angle at the junction of the left internal jugular and subclavian veins. Along the sternum and costal cartilages, parasternal (internal thoracic) lymph nodes appear medial to the pleura, while anterior mediastinal nodes sit posterior to the manubrium and anterior to the pericardium. The sequence follows lymphatic channels from the intercostal spaces and tracheobronchial region toward the bronchomediastinal trunks, contrasting left-sided drainage to the thoracic duct with right upper quadrant drainage toward the right lymphatic duct.
