Description
Layered within a semi-transparent adult male body, the animation traces the central nervous system from cerebral hemispheres and brainstem into the cervical, thoracic, lumbar, sacral, and coccygeal segments of the spinal cord. Cranial nerves fan anteroinferiorly from the brainstem toward the face, pharynx, and neck, while paired spinal nerve roots emerge posterolaterally through intervertebral foramina to form mixed peripheral nerves. As the sequence progresses, major plexuses resolve in situ, brachial plexus in the lower neck and axilla, lumbar plexus within psoas major, and sacral plexus on the pelvic wall, with long distal continuations such as the median, ulnar, radial, femoral, and sciatic nerves tracking into the limbs. Clinical anatomy reads more clearly in motion. Following sensory and motor pathways from cortex to peripheral targets helps explain upper versus lower motor neuron findings, and why a C6 radiculopathy produces pain and weakness patterns that differ from a median neuropathy at the carpal tunnel or an ulnar neuropathy at the cubital tunnel.
