Radiographic projections center on the pancreas as it lies retroperitoneally across the upper abdomen, with the head nestled in the C-loop of the duodenum and the body and tail extending leftward toward the splenic hilum. A malignant pancreatic mass appears as an irregular, space-occupying opacity with indistinct margins, deforming the expected contour of pancreatic tissue and altering the local soft-tissue interface with the posterior stomach and adjacent bowel.
