Description
Centered in the thorax, the heart sits posterior to the sternum and medial to the lungs, with the ascending aorta rising superiorly before curving into the aortic arch. From that arch, the brachiocephalic trunk, left common carotid artery, and left subclavian artery course superiorly and laterally toward the neck and upper limb, while the descending thoracic aorta continues inferiorly along the vertebral column. Paired subclavian arteries transition into axillary and brachial arteries distally, and accompanying superficial and deep veins are rendered in contrast, all framed by a faint rib cage and sternum in an x-ray style. Small-caliber branches and arterioles fill the interstitial spaces. Dense detail.
