Description
Radiating across the dorsum and plantar aspect of the male foot, the arterial tree is shown continuing distally from the anterior tibial artery into the dorsalis pedis artery and, plantarly, from the posterior tibial artery into the medial and lateral plantar arteries, which contribute to the plantar arterial arch. Digital arteries course along the medial and lateral borders of the toes, while a denser superficial venous network tracks more dorsally, converging toward the dorsal venous arch. Proximally, vessels are seen crossing the ankle region adjacent to the malleoli before dividing into terminal branches over the metatarsals and phalanges. Faint skeletal contours of the tarsals, metatarsals, and phalanges provide orientation without obscuring the vasculature. Clinically, the dorsalis pedis artery and posterior tibial artery are the two standard distal pulse points for assessing perfusion in peripheral arterial disease, and this transparent, branch level rendering helps correlate the palpation sites with the vessel’s expected course. End arteries to the toes also frame the problem of critical limb ischemia and diabetic foot ulceration, where impaired flow and limited collateral options can drive tissue loss. Small vessel trajectories around the ankle matter during incisions for dorsal approaches to the midfoot and during flap planning, where compromising the dorsal venous arch can worsen postoperative edema. Distal circulation is unforgiving.
