Posteriorly oriented, this plate centers on the dorsal branches of the posterior intercostal veins as they diverge from the intercostal spaces and course medially toward the vertebral column, then fan superficially into the paraspinal soft tissues. Tributaries track along the deep surface of the trapezius and latissimus dorsi while also threading between erector spinae components (iliocostalis, longissimus, spinalis) adjacent to the thoracic spinous processes.
