Description
Along the posterolateral aspect of the testis, the epididymis forms a crescentic structure with an expanded caput (head) at the superior pole, a thinner corpus (body) descending along the posterior margin, and a narrowed cauda (tail) at the inferior pole. The head sits broad and lobulated where efferent ductules converge, while the body tracks inferiorly and slightly medially, maintaining close apposition to the tunica vaginalis. Inferiorly, the tail turns medially and continues as the ductus deferens at the level of the epididymal-vas junction. Small, tight curves. Distinct. This topographic breakdown matters when you teach sperm maturation and transport, because the epididymal duct length is functionally packed into a short anatomic footprint, and its segmental anatomy drives both exam findings and operative decisions.
