Description

Presented in lateral profile, the male skull is rendered with the calvaria of the frontal, parietal, and occipital bones forming the cranial vault, with the coronal, squamous, and lambdoid sutures tracing their characteristic serrated courses across the outer table. Anteriorly, the orbit is framed by the frontal bone superiorly, the zygomatic bone laterally, and the maxilla inferiorly, while the nasal aperture sits medial to the zygomaticomaxillary region. Inferior and anterior to the temporal fossa, the zygomatic arch spans posteriorly toward the temporal bone, and the mandible occupies the lower face with its body bearing the dentition and its ramus rising posteriorly toward the temporomandibular joint. Lateral skull views matter when you need to think in planes that match trauma and surgery. This angle makes the zygomatic arch, orbital rim, and maxilla easy to relate to the buttress system assessed in zygomaticomaxillary complex fractures and to the bony boundaries relevant in lateral orbital wall approaches. It also supports teaching of the mandible’s leverage and joint mechanics, a practical setup for discussing temporomandibular disorder and the clinical consequences of mandibular angle and condylar fractures. A clean bone surface helps. Use this artwork for gross anatomy head and neck modules, dental and maxillofacial curricula, and radiographic correlation in courses that pair physical landmarks with lateral cephalograms or plain-film trauma series. It also fits atlases, operative overviews of midface fixation, and patient-facing education on facial fracture patterns. Anatomical accuracy verified by SciePro's Medical Advisory Board.
