Description
Seen in lateral profile, the trapezius forms a superficial sheet from the external occipital protuberance and nuchal ligament down toward the upper thoracic spinous processes, then fans laterally to the lateral third of the clavicle, acromion, and spine of the scapula. Anterior to it, the sternocleidomastoid tracks from the mastoid process toward the manubrium and medial clavicle, creating the familiar neck contour. Along the shoulder, the deltoid caps the glenohumeral region, with the triceps brachii occupying the posterior arm, while portions of the mandible and calvaria frame the craniofacial musculature. Mammary gland lobules sit anterior on the thoracic wall, distinct from the overlying pectoral region. Clear layering.
