Superiorly, multiple bridging veins run from the cortical venous network toward the midline dural venous sinuses (including the superior sagittal sinus), while posterior drainage trends toward the transverse and sigmoid sinuses. Anterior and inferior venous channels converge toward the cavernous sinus region, with continuity into extracranial pathways through the emissary connections and the internal jugular vein in the neck. This perspective matters because bridging veins are the weak link in acceleration deceleration injury, where rupture at the dural entry point produces a subdural hematoma that spreads along the convexity and can cross suture lines.
