Description
Centered on the lateral sulcus (Sylvian fissure), the superficial middle cerebral vein tracks posteriorly along the superolateral surface of the cerebral hemisphere, collecting cortical tributaries from the frontal, parietal, and superior temporal regions. From a superior perspective, the vessel network lies superficial to the insular cortex, with draining veins crossing the opercular gyri and converging toward the perisylvian venous channel. Medially, the interhemispheric fissure and adjacent parasagittal cortex frame the midline, where the superior sagittal sinus is suggested as a longitudinal collector for superficial cerebral veins. Orientation is clean and anatomical. Perisylvian venous anatomy matters when you plan or interpret approaches that traverse the Sylvian fissure, since the superficial middle cerebral vein and its frontosylvian and temporosylvian tributaries can tether the opercula and limit fissure splitting.
