Description
Centered in anatomical position, the female skeletal model highlights the right and left humeri in blue along the brachium, each extending from the glenohumeral joint superiorly to the elbow joint inferiorly. Proximally, the humeral head sits medial to the greater tubercle and lateral to the anatomical neck, aligning with the scapular glenoid, while the shaft descends anteroinferiorly with its expected lateral curvature toward the distal condylar region. Distally, the medial and lateral epicondyles flank the trochlea and capitulum, which articulate with the ulna and radius, respectively, at the cubital joint complex. Clear landmarks. Emphasizing the humerus in the context of the whole skeleton helps you teach orientation and side identification while keeping the relationship to the shoulder girdle and forearm bones explicit. Clinically, this bone is a frequent site of injury: surgical neck fractures risk axillary nerve involvement, midshaft fractures can compromise the radial nerve along the spiral (radial) groove, and distal supracondylar fractures change the carrying angle and may endanger the brachial artery and median nerve. The bilateral highlighting also supports comparison of proximal humeral morphology relevant to shoulder arthroplasty templating and fracture classification.
