Description
Centered on an adult female skeleton in anatomical position, both humeri are highlighted while the surrounding bony landmarks remain visible for orientation, including the clavicles and scapulae proximally and the radius and ulna distally. An anterior emphasis brings the humeral head into relation with the glenoid cavity, then follows the proximal metaphysis into the shaft, where the deltoid tuberosity sits on the lateral surface. Inferiorly, the distal humerus broadens to the medial and lateral epicondyles flanking the articular block, with the trochlea lying medially for the ulna and the capitulum laterally for the radial head. Clear and direct. Clinically, this anterior overview is the one most often used to teach fracture location and surface anatomy before learners move on to sectional imaging. Surgical neck fractures classically endanger the axillary nerve as it wraps posterior to the proximal humerus, while midshaft injuries are discussed in the context of the radial nerve’s course in the spiral groove and the resulting wrist drop, even though that groove is posterior and best appreciated after students establish the anterior landmarks. Distally, the relationship of epicondyles to the elbow joint line supports discussions of supracondylar fractures, cubital fossa boundaries, and pin placement trajectories used in pediatric fixation.
