Description
Presented in lateral projection, the bony framework of the male foot is organized from the posterior calcaneus and superior talus to the distal phalanges, with articular cartilage indicated in blue at the subtalar, talonavicular, calcaneocuboid, tarsometatarsal, metatarsophalangeal, and interphalangeal joints. Anterior to the calcaneus sit the cuboid laterally and the navicular medially, with the cuneiforms positioned distal to the navicular and proximal to the bases of the metatarsals. The longitudinal arch rises from the calcaneal tuberosity through the midfoot to the metatarsal heads. Clear alignment. Lateral foot anatomy matters because it frames how load transfers during gait and where failure occurs when the arch collapses or the hindfoot drifts into valgus.
