Description
Rendered from a low, medial perspective of the right lower leg and foot, the distal tibia and fibula frame the ankle mortise around the trochlea of the talus, with the calcaneus positioned inferior and posterior as the primary hindfoot load bearer. Anteriorly, the tarsus, metatarsus, and phalanges align into longitudinal and transverse arches, while the medial column (talus to navicular to first metatarsal) reads clearly. Tendinous structures course across the ankle into the foot, including the calcaneal (Achilles) tendon inserting on the posterior calcaneal tuberosity and long flexor tendons tracking distally toward the toes. Plantar fascia and key ligaments are suggested as struts supporting the midfoot. That medial, low-angle setup is the teaching sweet spot for understanding how hindfoot position controls forefoot mechanics and why the talocalcaneal complex matters in both gait and deformity.
