Description
Viewed from the lateral aspect of the male lower leg and foot, the fibularis (peroneus) brevis occupies the distal half of the lateral compartment, its muscle belly lying posterior to the fibula and tapering into a tendon as it approaches the ankle. The tendon passes posterior to the lateral malleolus, sharing the retromalleolar groove with fibularis longus, then courses anteriorly along the lateral calcaneus to insert on the tuberosity at the base of the fifth metatarsal. Medially, the tibia frames the leg’s main weightbearing axis, while the fibula remains lateral and nonarticular at the knee, serving as the key pulley and attachment site for the lateral ankle tendons. Bones of the hindfoot, midfoot, and forefoot provide distal context down to the phalanges. Clean landmarks.
