Description
Arising from the frontal nerve (ophthalmic division of the trigeminal nerve, V1), the supraorbital nerve exits the orbit at the supraorbital notch or foramen of the frontal bone and then courses superiorly in the forehead, where its medial and lateral cutaneous branches fan out across the frontal scalp. From a lateral skull and neck perspective, the nerve’s superficial ascent is read against bony landmarks including the frontal bone, parietal bone, and the coronal suture, with the orbital rim, maxilla, and mandible providing facial orientation. Posterior to the orbit, the temporal region and external ear help anchor the nerve’s position relative to the zygomatic arch and lateral cranial vault.
