Description
Curving superiorly from the parotid region, the temporal branch of the facial nerve (CN VII) is traced in lateral profile as it crosses the zygomatic arch and fans toward the temporal fossa. Along its course it runs superficial to the masseter and zygomatic bone, then ascends over the temporalis fascia to reach the frontalis and the superior portion of orbicularis oculi. Nearby facial nerve branches within the parotid gland are suggested deep to the glandular tissue, while adjacent sensory pathways from the trigeminal nerve (CN V), including the auriculotemporal nerve in the preauricular region, provide an anatomic counterpoint.
