Description
Arising from the anterior surface of the zygomatic bone just posterior to the zygomaticomaxillary region, the zygomaticus minor is presented in lateral profile as a slender band coursing inferomedially toward the upper lip. Its fibers pass superficial to the maxilla and toward the skin and musculature of the upper lip, blending near the lateral aspect of the nasolabial fold with the orbicularis oris and the levator labii superioris complex. Surrounding bony landmarks in profile include the nasal bones and aperture, maxilla, mandible with dentition, and the temporomandibular joint region, with the cervical vertebral column (C1 to C7) aligned inferiorly.
