Description
Medial anatomy of the male leg and hindfoot is opened to track the tibial nerve as it continues from the sciatic nerve and descends in the deep posterior compartment. Proximally, the nerve lies posterior to the tibia and deep to the gastrocnemius and soleus, then courses with the posterior tibial artery and venae comitantes toward the tarsal tunnel. Distally, it passes posterior to the medial malleolus beneath the flexor retinaculum, adjacent to the tendons of tibialis posterior, flexor digitorum longus, and flexor hallucis longus, before dividing into the medial and lateral plantar nerves in the plantar foot.
