Description
Posterior cervical and upper thoracic osseous landmarks are emphasized, with the spinous processes of the cervical vertebrae leading inferiorly into the prominent C7 vertebra and the thoracic spines along the midline. Lateral to the vertebral column, the scapulae rest on the posterior thoracic wall, their spines and medial borders framing the rib cage, while the clavicles and proximal ribs establish the superior thoracic aperture in the upper chest. A blue-rendered neural overlay logically includes the brain and brainstem superiorly, the cervical spinal cord continuing into the upper thoracic cord, and segmental spinal nerves exiting laterally toward the shoulder girdle.
