Description
Centered on the third thoracic vertebra (T3) from a posterior perspective, the spinous process projects posteriorly in the midline while the paired laminae converge to complete the vertebral arch around the vertebral foramen. Superior and inferior articular processes frame the zygapophysial joints above and below, and the transverse processes extend laterally toward the costotransverse articulations with the third ribs. Adjacent thoracic vertebrae stack superiorly and inferiorly along the vertebral column, helping you localize T3 relative to the surrounding spine. One vertebra is color-highlighted for rapid identification. Posterior thoracic anatomy matters because most palpable and procedural landmarks in the upper back are posterior elements, not vertebral bodies.
