Posteriorly, the eleventh thoracic vertebra (T11) is identifiable by its stout, short spinous process and the transitional look toward the lumbar spine. Flanking the spinous process, the laminae converge on the midline, while the paired transverse processes project laterally and slightly posteriorly from the junction of pedicle and lamina. Superior and inferior articular processes frame the vertebral arch, and the pedicles form the lateral walls of the vertebral foramen, positioned posterior to the vertebral body that is only partially appreciated from this angle. T11 matters because it sits at the thoracolumbar junction where kyphosis begins to yield to lumbar lordosis, a mechanical transition that concentrates stress during flexion and axial load.
