Description
From a superior (norma verticalis) perspective, the frontal bone forms the anterior roof of the cranium, its external surface sweeping posteriorly to meet the paired parietal bones along the coronal suture. Anteroinferiorly, the contour corresponds to the forehead region, including the superciliary arches and the median area overlying the glabella, while the frontal squama occupies the midline between the left and right frontal eminences. Laterally, the frontal bone curves toward the temporal lines as it approaches the frontoparietal junction. Sutural serrations are emphasized. Clinically, this top-down view clarifies the coronal suture as a landmark for both trauma assessment and craniosynostosis patterns. Palpable forehead contour changes in unicoronal synostosis, with anterior plagiocephaly and orbital asymmetry, are easier to conceptually anchor when the frontoparietal relationship is cleanly separated from the facial skeleton.
