Description
Dominating the anterior cranial vault, the frontal bone is presented from a superior (norma verticalis) perspective, with the forehead plate (squama frontalis) forming the anterior roof of the neurocranium. Midline landmarks such as the glabella sit between the superciliary arches, while the supraorbital margins and supraorbital notches or foramina mark the inferior border of the frontal bone where it contributes to the orbital roofs. Posteriorly, the coronal suture forms a serrated boundary with the right and left parietal bones, which are kept semi-transparent to clarify the frontal bone’s perimeter. Suture anatomy is easy to read. A top-down view like this is the clearest way to teach where the frontal bone ends and the parietals begin, and it keeps attention on the coronal suture without distraction from facial bones. Clinically, those supraorbital notches or foramina matter: they transmit the supraorbital nerve and vessels, a common target for regional anesthesia in forehead and scalp laceration repair and a structure at risk during brow and upper blepharoplasty incisions. Recognition of the glabella and superciliary arches also helps orient surface anatomy for trauma documentation and craniometric measurement.
