Description
Presented as a transparent lateral skull, the frontal bone is isolated in contrast against the remaining calvaria, making the frontal squama and its superior curvature easy to read from the glabella to the coronal suture. Inferiorly, the supraorbital margin forms the roof of the orbit, with the zygomatic process of the frontal bone projecting posterolaterally to meet the zygomatic bone at the frontozygomatic suture. Posterior to the frontal bone, the parietal bone articulates along the coronal suture, while the nasal bones and maxilla sit anteroinferiorly beneath the frontal nasal region. Lateral emphasis on the supraorbital rim and glabellar region supports teaching around anterior cranial vault anatomy and fracture patterns: trauma to the supraorbital margin can involve the frontal sinus and anterior table, and extension into the orbital roof raises concern for ocular injury and cerebrospinal fluid leak. Subtle contour changes at the pterion region, just posteroinferior to the frontal bone’s lateral aspect where frontal, parietal, sphenoid, and temporal bones approximate, also orient clinicians to the thin skull overlying the middle meningeal artery. A clean landmark view. The transparent treatment helps correlate external bony landmarks with internal sinus boundaries and suture alignment.
