Oriented from a superior perspective, the right hepatic artery is traced as it courses within the porta hepatis region toward the right lobe, giving a clear sense of its proximal origin and distal intrahepatic branching. Medial to it, the biliary tree comes into play at the cystic duct region, where the artery commonly passes in close relationship to the ductal structures before distributing segmental branches. Semi-transparency through the hepatic parenchyma exposes the internal vascular arborization against the smooth diaphragmatic surface of the reddish-brown liver. Spatial relationships are easy to read. Surgical anatomy drives the value of this angle. During laparoscopic cholecystectomy, misidentification of the right hepatic artery or an aberrant branch near the cystic duct can lead to hemorrhage or, worse, devascularization of the extrahepatic bile duct with postoperative stricture risk. A superior view also reinforces how the right hepatic artery enters the liver at the hilum and divides into segmental branches relevant to hepatic resection planning and selective arterial embolization, where catheter placement depends on predictable proximal to distal branching patterns.
