Description
Posterior musculature of an adult female is rendered as a layered 3D model, with red muscle bellies contrasted against white tendons and fascial tissue. Superiorly, the trapezius spans from the occipital region and nuchal ligament toward the scapular spine, while the posterior deltoid caps the glenohumeral joint lateral to the infraspinatus and teres minor region. Inferior to the scapula, latissimus dorsi sweeps superolaterally toward the intertubercular sulcus of the humerus, and the erector spinae columns run longitudinally on either side of the spinous processes beneath the thoracolumbar fascia. At the pelvis and thigh, gluteus maximus overlies the posterior hip, continuing distally to the iliotibial tract laterally, with the hamstrings (biceps femoris laterally, semitendinosus and semimembranosus medially) descending toward the knee above the gastrocnemius-soleus complex and the calcaneal (Achilles) tendon. Posterior views like this clarify force transmission across myofascial continuities, from the thoracolumbar fascia into latissimus dorsi and the contralateral gluteal sling, and down the posterior chain into the calf. It is also the cleanest teaching angle for common injury patterns: proximal hamstring tendinopathy at the ischial tuberosity, Achilles tendon rupture near its watershed zone, and scapular dyskinesis driven by trapezius imbalance that changes shoulder mechanics during overhead activity. A good map for movement problems. Use it in gross anatomy and kinesiology courses when you need students to distinguish superficial from deeper back layers and to track tendon insertions at the shoulder, hip, knee, and ankle. It also fits sports medicine patient education, rehabilitation manuals, and surgical atlas context for posterior approaches to the shoulder and hip, where muscle intervals and tendon footprints matter.
