Anterior Perspective of the Levator Labii Superioris Muscle

Anterior facial musculature is presented with the levator labii superioris tracking inferiorly from the infraorbital region toward the upper lip, positioned lateral to the side of the nose and superior to the oral fissure. Superiorly, the frontalis spans the forehead, while the orbicularis oculi encircles each orbit; inferior and lateral to the oral commissure the buccinator is highlighted bilaterally, lying deep to the cheek. Along the mandibular ramus the masseter occupies a lateral position, and the platysma forms a thin superficial sheet over the anterolateral neck. Fiber direction is explicit. Understanding the levator labii superioris in relation to the buccinator and orbicularis oris clarifies how upper lip elevation couples with cheek tension during speech, smiling, and oral competence. This anterior perspective also supports interpretation of facial nerve (CN VII) motor deficits, where asymmetric upper lip elevation can help localize involvement of zygomatic and buccal branches, and it provides practical landmarks for aesthetic injection planning around the nasolabial fold and infraorbital region.
