Description
Seen from an anterior perspective, the male upper-body skeleton centers on the cranium superiorly and the thoracic cage inferiorly, with the mandible, orbits, nasal aperture, and maxilla forming the facial framework above the cervical vertebrae. Bilateral clavicles span laterally from the manubrium to the acromial ends, bracketing the superior thoracic aperture, while the scapulae sit posterolaterally and are only partially suggested at the shoulders from this front view. The sternum occupies the midline (manubrium, body, xiphoid process), receiving the costal cartilages and anterior ends of the ribs as they sweep laterally and posteriorly toward the thoracic vertebrae.
