Description
Posterior anatomy of an adult male skeleton is presented from the occiput through the pelvis, with the cranium and mandibular angle superiorly and the vertebral column running in the midline. Laterally, the scapulae lie over the posterior thoracic wall, their medial borders paralleling the spinous processes and their inferior angles pointing inferolaterally toward the lower ribs. The rib cage arcs from the thoracic vertebrae to form the posterior thorax, while the clavicles and acromial regions mark the appendicular connection at the shoulder girdle. Pelvic landmarks, including the iliac crests and sacrum, anchor the inferior extent. A posterior skeletal view clarifies how the axial skeleton and shoulder girdle couple through the sternoclavicular and acromioclavicular chain even when the sternum is out of sight, and it makes scapulothoracic positioning easier to teach than in an anterior plate.
